A frilly bedroom chair

A few weeks ago I covered this chair with an airy, frilly skirt and fixed a few ovals on the back rest, sprinkled a few flowers and now it is ready to grace a young ladies bedroom.
I am still busy making the bedcover for the ‘INDEX SHOW’ next week.  I was given lots of nice matching materials to make pillows to decorate the bed with, Toile, stripes, florals oh my!..              I didn’t move from my sewing machine today and will still see it all dancing in my sleep, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Happy Hallowe'en

♫ These are a few of my favorite things...

I love all the colours of Shabby Chic and romantic French but I am too chicken to paint my furniture white or cream, I did get my white sofa from IKEA and added lots of pink floral pillows but all the cupboards and tables are like grandmother's brown furniture.
One day I will get the courage to get the paint brush out and start with something unloved to transform, till then I will cover them with French linen.

Boudoir chair

This week I had some nice news, the shop where I bring my baby beds and cushions to will have a stand at ‘Dubai Index ‘, which is an Interior design show running from the 8th until the 11th of November.
I was asked if I had time to make a boudoir chair and a bed-cover, a very lacy one of course, and lots of pillows.
Today my hands are itching to make them and I started right away.
The chair is ready… and now I am busy with the quilt cover.

I will make lots of photo's at the show and post them all.
Have a nice day.

A little army of favours

The custom here is when a baby is born the parents  give out little gifts to celebrate their new baby.
I had an order of 50 little containers to put chocolate in, that amount is just right before getting bored of repeating  the same thing over and over.

Thank goodness no glue-gun blisters this time!

Brooches

Today I felt like making some brooches and a hair clip.
I found some nice crowns in the market and added velvet ribbons, lace and a few flowers..  glued a brooch pin at the back and they're now ready to make a simple shirt look pretty.

Stacks of lace

This is what I look at when behind my sewing machine.

My work place is actually my third bedroom that can be tidy if I really want it to be but not this week, month..
I have so much work lined up that needs to be finished before traveling to France to
be with my daughter when she is expecting her second baby!
France in the winter, hmmm I’ve  only been there in summer and
as I live in Dubai I don't have many winter clothes,
so that can only mean one thing .. Shopping!

My home

This is what I look at when I am behind my laptop,
Little snuff boxes I bought at a flea market in Lille.
Post cards from Paris. I adore France and I am lucky
my daughter lives in Lyon so I have to visit often!

Baby Pouch

Full tutorial:

Now you can pass this baby pouch down to your daughter.
It will be nice to embroider each baby's name and birth date inside the cover.
Hand stitch the opening closed.

Decorate the overlap with… you guessed it… more lace!
Add a few satin bows and now you have your very own Heirloom baby pouch.
Now add one layer of lace all around on the edge,
then pin a 50 cm. long zipper on each side and zigzag them in place.
Now put the cotton inner layer on top and pin it all around and straight stitch it leaving an opening to turn it out.
Now decorate the top part with lace and stitch in place.
Leave 14cm. empty to be folded over in front.
I use a disappearing ink pen to mark where it needs to be stitched, the layers need to be secured.
The inside and outside layers are each in one piece, 133 cm. long x 43 cm. wide
The layer close to the baby should be cotton and the outside layer can be anything fancy.
Each layer needs to be lined with wading and stitched around.

Heirloom

We are always looking for that precious heirloom to present your new baby to the world.
Why not make your own, it is not hard to do.
All you need is some silk or fine cotton and lots of lace, new or old.
Wading to line and give it more volume.
