Ivory Silk

Last week I was busy making baby bedding.

I love working with silk, Dupioni silk is a bit stiff and puffs out but is still light weight.
It looks nice with beige lace, this time I used just a little lace on request.

This set is made for another bed than the one in the picture, so the skirt will go under the cot's mattress.

Here is a diaper stacker and a toy bag.

Have to go, tomorrow I'll start covering Moses baskets... all three of them!
I hope you have a nice week.

Bird Cages

I bought many bird cages a few years ago and didn't have any place for them, so I put them on top of my cupboards.
It took a few days for my husband to notice them, he is like that, if he doesn't trip over it, he won't notice.
A new dress or different hair cut can wait for days until I mention it, then it is like oh, wow!
I'm not complaining, my hobby has gotten way out of hand and he doesn't mind, I took over an entire bedroom to do what I love best: sewing, designing and decorating.

So, we take a few bird cages and gather some lace, use the glue gun and stick them on top of the cage.

Take two big satin flowers and fix them on either side.

Add some more smaller flowers between the big ones, add ribbons and strings of small beads.

Don't forget the birds on top of the cage to finish.
I still have to look for a small climbing plant to put in the cage or a nice candle.

Desert Fun Drive..

Yesterday I opened my newspaper and found that the yearly fun drive registration
was OPEN and I was in the office within the hour.
This year I don't want to miss it...
We participated twice before and it is so much fun and so exciting to join, it gets the adrenalin going.
Last year it was an over-nighter and I didn't like the idea of driving for two days, so I didn't join.
This year I discovered that we just sleep in the desert and after breakfast we drive back home over tarmac, so it's do-able.
14th and 15th of January, I'll take my camera and share our new adventure.

These are some pictures from two years ago, a few hundred cars joined in, this is the only way I would go into the desert. There are many 'marshals' to help me out when I get stuck in the sand and the maps that are given are clear to follow, I just follow the tracks.. Yes! I am chicken...

Here we got stuck in soft sand and my daughter was trying to dig us out.

This picture is of Nad at the start line at about 7:00 in the morning and we finished after 4:00 o'clock when we were greeted by a big BBQ party.

 "Mum, are we lost... ?"

Here is the border of Oman.

Keep an eye out for my next adventure!

This is how I party!

I'm back in Dubai and my work is piling up, these days all my orders are for baby items:
beds, baby-pouches and even bed covers.
I love making baby items, they are small and cute.
I was given floral and matching striped materials to make pillows and other items with and I have been busy for the last few days making these pillows and chair.

Can it get any more pink, frilly or sweeter?

This is a Moses Basket on a iron frame, I think grey and pink look so sweet.

I hope you have a Happy and Healthy New Year with lots of new inspirations.

I will be sharing this post with
Feathered nest Friday ,  Favorite things Friday , Vintage Insirations Friday  ,  Flaunt it Friday ,
'Look at me' Party!!! ,  Home Decor ,  Show and tell Friday and

Lace and time..

Today I would like to share with you the lace I keep around my home.

This one is crochet lace made with the thinnest thread,
I admire the skill that went into making it.

In France my daughter and me were admiring a market stall with over-priced hand made embroidered linen, a lady that saw us waited until we moved away from the stall and offered her mothers linen to us.
At her home she showed us a stack of small table linen and pillow cases which I was too happy to take off her hands and that for 5 Euros each.

This table cover I bought in England from a charity shop and it's my favourite one.
It has a very fine crochet border and some beautiful embroidery on it.

Did I mention that I have a tick for clocks?

This one keeps perfect time, it's a Grandmother's clock.

This clock has a very nice striking sound EVERY 15 minutes and a whole melody on the hour, so I don't wind it up any more, it drives my family crazy! It just stands there being pretty.

This one I keep running, the hourly strikes are very soft and nobody complains..

Another silent one... The vintage hat I got from my daughter for Christmas.
I want to start a collection of top hats, now I've got two, I have to start somewhere..

Auction find! I have a barometer to go with this one.

This one is a "paardjes klok" it has a horse on top of it, this is an old one, you can't imagine the sound it makes when it strikes, as if he was a heavy smoker for about a hundred years... when it does strike the whole family goes aahhh!! how sad.. so I don't wind it up anymore.

I am joining   Romantic Home and  Blue Cricket Design for show and tell.
